What happens to Rue 21 credit card? ›

rue21 filed for bankruptcy May 2, 2024. Because of this, we are no longer accepting new applications and no purchases can be made with the rue21 Rewards Credit Card. Existing cardmembers will receive additional information about the closure of your account and what this change means for you.

You may use your Account to make purchases anywhere the Card is accepted. If your Card has the logo of one of our network providers (e.g., American Express, Visa and Mastercard), you may use your Account to make Cash Advances.

As of 5/3/24, the rue21 REWARDS program has ended. Any earned rue21 REWARDs must be redeemed by 5/23/24. The rue21 private label credit card program will terminate on 5/23/24 and customers will no longer be able to use the private label credit card as of such date.

Unfortunately, a store closure doesn't let you off the hook from repaying your debt. You will continue to receive billing statements from the card issuer and you'll have to repay all the amounts you owe on your card.
